Meet our doctors...

Richard Smith, DVM, Diplomate ABVP

Dr. Smith received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 1974. After enjoying small animal practice in Danville, Illinois for seven years, Dr. Smith purchased Piper Heritage Veterinary Clinic in 1981. Dr. Smith completed certification with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 1995 and recertified in 2004.  As a board certified specialist, Dr. Smith accepts referrals from other area practices.  He has a strong professional interest in orthopedic procedures and performs many procedures that are not commonly available in general practice.

Board Certification

The ABVP was established in 1978 to recognize excellence in clinical practice through the certification of species-oriented specialists. Veterinarians must participate in a residency program or have substantial practice experience, complete an extensive credentialing process and pass a rigorous two-day examination to receive board certification. Only about 800 veterinarians worldwide are ABVP diplomates.

Corbin Hodges, DVM

Dr. Corbin Hodges received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2005.  Doctors Corbin and Rebecca Hodges joined Piper Heritage Veterinary Clinic in 2007 after practicing in the Reno, Nevada area for two years.  While in Nevada, Dr. Corbin saw many exotic patients.  He was the only vet within a hundred mile radius of Reno who treated large snakes so his reptile clientele grew rapidly.  Developing the exotics practice here at Piper Heritage is one of his goals.  With the exception of birds, he has experience with many exotic species including pocket pets, reptiles, rabbits, and ferrets and enjoys the challenge that working with these special patients presents.  He also has a special interest in orthopedics and dentistry.

Rebecca Hodges, DVM

Dr. Rebecca Hodges received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2005.  The Hodges family moved back to Kansas in June of 2007.  She currently sees appointments part time and spends the rest of her time taking care of the Hodges' two children, Caleb and Leah.  Dr. Rebecca enjoys meeting both new clients and new patients and believes that client education is one of the most important services she can provide as a veterinarian.  Dr. Rebecca sees dogs and cats and is especially interested in soft tissue surgery, dermatology, and ophthalmology.  She believes that attending continuing education events is paramount to staying current in her field and a great opportunity to stay connected to colleagues.
